"Oh no, not another art gallery!"

[d]GALLERY este o galerie de tip "artist-run space". O galerie pentru tineri artisti si pentru arta noua, fara pretentia de a fi un spatiu exclusiv experimental, dedicat generatiilor care apartin globalizarii ca factor determinant, interconectivitatii virtuale si informatiei libere.
Conceptul din spatele galeriei este asemeni artistilor pe care ii va promova, intr-o continua transformare, flexibil, fara intentia de a deveni o rampa de lansare ci doar un spatiu "artist-friendly".
Galeria isi propune promovarea artistilor si proiectelor de grup care sunt actuale, originale prin subiect sau realizare; in viitorul apropiat urmeaza a fi lansat website-ul galeriei pe care se va face apel de proiecte si colaborari pentru artisti si curatori.
F1rst sample, este o prima mostra de arta tanara si in acelasi timp expozitia care inaugureaza [d]GALLERY.

Pictura prinsă în capcana fotografiei

Cu mult înainte de a exista fotografia, picturii îi revenea sarcina de a înregistra exact – uneori, strict documentar – realitatea.
La o distanţă de mai bine de un secol, stînd în faţa unei picturi realiste de acest fel, mai rămîne întrebarea: cum ar fi fost dacă artistul care a pictat-o ar fi avut un aparat foto la îndemînă?
Privind pictura realistă contemporană, poţi însă afla că, avînd la îndemînă mijloacele tehnice, artiştii pot transforma pictura în realitate şi, apoi, în fotografie.
Mircea Suciu şi-a început cariera artistică prin a încheia istoria unei celebre imagini-cult, ce nu a apucat a fi reprezentată artistic: aceea a execuţiei sîngeroase a unui dictator comunist. A continuat cu reprezentarea acelor oameni care trebuiau să construiască realismul socialist, care au pus atomul în locul lui Dumnezeu. Oricît de filtrată ar fi, realitatea timpurilor comuniste se întoarce ca artă, dintr-o nevoie aproape carnală de a confrunta demonii trecutului.

Într-o plină criză a capitalismului, oamenii din picturile lui Mircea Suciu caută să şteargă urmele de sînge ale comunismului. Într-un gri atemporal şi imaterial, un personaj banal, eroul din fiecare om, îşi spală mîinile de sînge, freacă duşumeaua cu peria, încercînd astfel să şteargă urmele unor gînduri umbrite. Atingînd coarda sensibilă a unor amintiri ce se vor uitate prin colţurile întunecate ale fiinţei, Mircea Suciu dezvăluie locul comun al vinei ascunse de fiecare. Blocat în gesturi repetitive, eroul postcomunist amestecă angoasa şi nevoia de purificare.
Refăcute într-un studio fotografic, cu personaj şi recuzită, picturile artistului ajung realitate şi, apoi, fotografie. Prinzînd-o în capcana fotografiei, Mircea Suciu se desparte pentru moment de una dintre nălucile care îi bîntuie pictura.
Expoziţia Constant feeling of guilt este rezultatul colaborării artiştilor Mircea Suciu şi Gin, pictor şi fotograf. Experimentul celor doi artişti are drept sursă de inspiraţie arhive ale advertisingului din anii ’50, ’60, transformate în pictură, iar apoi recompuse cu ajutorul limbajului fotografic.

Sol Seppy *Enter One* Chorus

Sol Seppy is a singer-songwriter and producer from the United Kingdom. Her real name is Sophie Michalitsianos, and she was formerly a member of American indie rock band Sparklehorse. Her first album, The Bells of 1 2, was released by Grönland Records in 2006.
At sixteen, Sophie began writing music for television documentaries and swapping her vocal abilities for free studio time at the EMI studios in Australia.

Adrian Ghenie la Haunch of Venison Londra

The sources for Ghenie’s images are derived from a combination of
his own memories and from historical books, archives and films. While
Ghenie often engages with specific and emblematic images and
moments in twentieth century history – the death of Stalin, the
Hollywood comedy stars Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, the art
collection amassed by Herman Goering during the second World War,
or the infamous Dada fair of 1920 Berlin – his paintings are never
prescriptive but rather open to a multitude of possible interpretations.

Adrian Ghenie (b.1977 Baia-Mare, Romania) graduated in 2001 from the University of Art and Design, Cluj (Romania), and lives and works in Cluj and Berlin. Recent solo exhibitions include The Flight into Egypt, Nolan Judin, Berlin (2008), Plan B, Berlin (2008),Tim van Laere,Antwerp(2008) and Shadow of a Daydream, Haunch of Venison Zurich (2007-8). Important recent group exhibitions include Liverpool Biennial (2008), Expanded Painting, Prague Biennale (2007) and Cluj Connection, Haunch of Venison, Zurich (2006). Ghenie has forthcoming solo exhibitions at Museum of Modern Art in Bucharest (2009) and SMAK, Ghent (2010).

Flunk is a Norwegian electronic band consisting of producer Ulf Nygaard, guitarist Jo Bakke, drummer Erik Ruud, and vocalist Anja Oyen Vister. In 2007 Flunk released their next album, Personal Stereo, while May 2009 saw the release of This Is What You Get.

Pictura mai poate inca soca!

The impact the Manic Street Preachers album cover has made raises the interesting possibility that hand-made, painterly images now have more power to shock than conceptual artworks.
But there the comparisons end. It's hard to imagine the chain of decisions that led to Jenny Saville's painting of a boy's face in colours that vary from olive green to reddish brown, blue and black, being judged too offensive to go on public view. The painting can apparently be interpreted to show blood on the boy's face – although as the band rightly point out, this is a subjective view. He might have crimson scars and battered lips; or these might just be the colours Saville has used to evoke the appearance of flesh. The whites and creams, the blues of his eyes, are just as shocking.

Trio Elf - 746

Trio Elf has truly re-invented the classic jazz piano trio format in recent years by using grooves and sounds of contemporary club styles like Drum'n'Bass, House, Dubstep or HipHop as a kickoff for improvisation. The careful integration of sound effects on each instrument and spontaneously generated loops widen the acoustic sound and add a new dimension of interplay that goes way beyond the use of "trendy" pre-produced beats.
The band's unique style has generated a repertoire ranging from acoustic versions of electronic icons such as Aphex Twin or Kraftwerk to digital versions of classics by Monk, Milton Nascimento, Paolo Conte or Brahms. Their own compositions are subtly inspired by sources as diverse as Bach, Jobim, the Beatles or Seattle Grunge. Both their recordings "ELF" (enja, 2006) and "746" (enja, 2008) were hailed by critics both in Europe and Japan and have rightfully been described as the "New Sound Of The Trio"

Serban Savu - Plan B, Berlin

In contrast to employing melancholy images of communist life to sell artworks or to advertise products, Serban Savu does not succumb to irony: this is especially the case with the paintings of workers – the purported heroes of communist society, marginalized during post-ʼ89 transition. Labor, sometimes illegal labor, appears in almost all Serban Savuʼs works, including those where it is conspicuously absent, like his series Leisure of people sunbathing by the River Somes, or the 1st of May picnics in other paintings. The specter of labor haunts Serban Savuʼs work.

Modernism.ro se preocupa de viata artistica, de realizarile artisilor romani si de promovarea acestora, autonumindu-se tabloid de arta si stil. Intemeietorii site-ului sunt Cosmin Nasui, critic de arta si artist vizual, Cristi Farcas, de asemenea artist vizual preocupat de noile media video si online si Lucian Muntean, fotograf de presa. Cei trei au pus la cale un proiect menit sa incurajeze aceasta miscare culturala prin interviuri cu diferiti artisti din lumea artelor vizuale si reportaje care ofera insight-uri dintr-o zona exclusivista, prea putin cunoscuta publicului roman.

Gasim online articole care te ajuta sa intelegi mai bine arta moderna, pictura, fotografia, dar si operele unor hair-stylists precum Codruta Farcas sau fashion designeri precum Cristian Samfira. Categoriile site-ului includ stiri din arta romaneasca contemporana, artisul lunii unde se intampla topuri pe diferite teme, punctul critic in mare parte dominat de ochiul critic al lui Cosmin Nasui, iar in Conversatii avem sansa sa cunoastem tineri artisti aflati deja in ascensiune.

Home made art este exact ce sugereaza si numele, arta facuta in casa, poate chiar la cuptorul cu microunde daca esti un artist sticlar. Intra aici sa vezi cum iti poti crea propriile pandantive si alte accesorii pe care, de obicei, le cumperi de la targuri de home-made.

Prin intermediul modernism.ro ti se ofera cateva secrete din lumea artistica romaneasca prin "modernism channel", dar si o usa pe care sa intri in camerele artistilor nostri care au dezvoltat diverse proiecte apreciate peste granite, de la Paris pana la New York, printre care-i gasim pe: Mircea Suciu cu Slag Gallery si Laika, Vlad Petri, Nemtoi Gallery , Cosniceru, Zoltan Bela si lista poate continua.

Lansat destul de recent, "tabloidul" modernism.ro promite sa stranga sub aceeasi umbrela virtuala artisti vizuali de marca ai Romaniei, sustinand diferite proiecte si galerii de arta moderna.

Gorzo: Core - Slag Gallery NY

Here, the new works that populate the exhibition Core, including a suite of drawings and watercolors on paper, a sculptural installation, and a series of large-scale oil and clay paintings on canvas, seem to merge Gorzo’s past and imaginary worlds. The subjects that these bodies of work tackle are myriad, ranging from abstract crypto-zoological investigations and hybrid form studies that mesh human, animal and plant-like characteristics to more realistic historical renderings on canvas.

Ingrid Michaelson - "The Way I Am"

Ingrid Michaelson ( n.1969 ), este o cântăreaţă şi compozitoare din New York, melodiile ei aparţinând stilului indie, pop şi folk. Cea mai mare parte a compoziţiilor sale au apărut pe coloanele sonore a mai multor seriale de televiziune, printre care şi Gray's Anatomy. Tatăl ei, Carl Michaelson, este compozitor, iar mama, Elizabeth Egbert, sculptor şi director executiv al Muzeului Staten Island. Ingrid a început să ia lecţii de pian de la vârsta de 5 ani. A urmat Staten Island Technical High School şi Binghamton University, unde a şi primit o diplomă în teatru. Pe tot parcursul adolescenţei s-a dedicat şi a făcut parte dintr-un grup de teatru musical, intitulat „Kids on Stage”. Mai târziu a devenit directoarea acestui grup până s-a hotărât să se dedice carierei muzicale. La data de 10 septembrie 2008 a performat în deschiderea concertului trupei DMB ( Dave Matthews Band's ), care avea loc în Madison Square Garden.

FOR many tourists, a city break would be incomplete without visiting a musem or gallery to take in some culture. Last year, the Louvre in Paris attracted the highest number of visitors—8.5m people streamed through to peer at the Mona Lisa and the other treasures within. The French capital punches above its weight with another three museums high up on a list of favourites compiled by the Art Newspaper. Galleries in New York, London and Rome reap the benefits of high numbers of tourists. Free entry at London's galleries has also boosted visitors.
